NCC Montenegro at CMBEBIH 2025 – Strengthening HPC Collaboration in the Western Balkans

NCC Montenegro will take part in the upcoming CMBEBIH 2025 conference, which will be held from September 11-13, 2025, in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Organized by NCC HPC Bosnia and Herzegovina, in collaboration with partners, CMBEBIH 2025 is one of the region’s leading conferences dedicated to medical and biological engineering. The event brings together scientists, engineers, clinicians and innovators to exchange knowledge and shape the future of health technologies.

As part of this international conference, the first major EuroCC event in Bosnia and Herzegovina will be hosted. This will include a dedicated HPC session, where NCC Montenegro will present its success stories and contributions to advancing HPC adoption in industry, research and public services. This session is a unique opportunity for all NCCs to showcase impactful initiatives and explore avenues for joint actions, including cross-border workshops and collaborative projects, as previously discussed within our network.

📢 Call for Papers – Special Issue in Technology and Health Care (THC)

EuroCC colleagues are encouraged to submit papers for a special issue of the SAGE journal Technology and Health Care. Submissions representing the work of NCCs are especially welcome and will strengthen the visibility of our community’s contributions.

Submission Timeline:

  • Initial Submission: September 20, 2025
  • First Feedback: October 20, 2025
  • Final Submission: November 25, 2025

💡 Oncology Hackathon at CMBEBIH 2025

 There will also be organized a special Hackathon in oncology, offering a space for interdisciplinary teams to co-create innovative solutions for cancer care. All interested students, researchers, clinicians, developers and data scientists are invited to register and join the challenge!

NCC Montenegro presented at EuroCC4SEE Seminar “5 Beats of Intelligence”

Successful presentation and from Dejan Babic from University of Donja Gorica at the EuroCC4SEE Seminar organized by NCC Turkiye. This was a part of the EuroCC4SEE project, five countries – Türkiye, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina – have joined forces to present an engaging online seminar series titled: “5 Beats of Intelligence: AI Meets Diverse Domains”.

NCC Montenegro at the The EuroCC4SEE Workshop in Belgrade

HPC Serbia organized a face-to-face regional EuroCC4SEE Workshop in Belgrade from 20 to 22 May 2025. NCC Montenegro team members participated in the event and give presentation about National Competence Center in HPC Montenegro.

The EuroCC4SEE Workshop in Belgrade started today with welcome messages given by Dr. Nadja Schauffler from the High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart, Dr. Antun Balaž from the Institute of Physics Belgrade, and Prof. Miloš Cvetanović from the University of Belgrade School of Electrical Engineering. The first day of the workshop focused on academic topics, showcasing a series of presentations that illustrate the application of HPC, HPDA, and AI in research.

The first day of the EuroCC4SEE workshop featured a series of engaging presentations highlighting the diverse applications of high-performance computing (HPC) across scientific disciplines.

The second day of the EuroCC4SEE Workshop in Belgrade began with a session focused on SMEs, while the afternoon session included presentations on the use of HPC in public administration. During second day were discussed the emerging opportunities for SMEs within the HPC ecosystem. Team members introduced support structures aimed at making advanced computing more accessible to smaller businesses and highlighted case studies of SME innovation enabled by HPC services. The afternoon session of the workshop highlighted impactful applications of HPC/HPDA/AI in public administration, showcasing how advanced technologies are being integrated into public services, environmental monitoring, and digital governance.

Exchange of experiences and industry engagement

The EuroCC4SEE Workshop wrapped up on 22 May, showcasing the best practices shared by teams from the regional competence centers. NCC Montenegro team members participated in the event and give presentation – showcase examples of HPC applications in Montenegro with focus on eveloping SME and Startup Ecosystems; on the digitally mature IT sector, PoC prioritization using EuroHPC and national computing infrastructures, enhancing HPC engagement in academia etc.

The workshop aimed to enhance regional collaboration, coordinate training activities, and maximize the impact of NCC’s regional events to promote HPC/AI technologies and advancements across Southeast Europe.

Strengthening EuroCC4SEE Cooperation: NCC BiH Visits NCC Montenegro

As part of the ongoing efforts to enhance collaboration within the EuroCC4SEE network, representatives of the NCC Bosnia and Herzegovina conducted a productive visit NCC Montenegro on May 13, 2025. The meeting served as a mentoring and twinning platform to exchange lessons learned and best practices in industry onboarding, academic alignment, and public sector engagement. It also contributed to the planning of joint initiatives and regional efforts to promote/accelerate the adoption of HPC technologies.

From the meeting related to planning the next cooperation steps

Key outcomes of the meeting:

  • Exchange of experience and practices – NCC Montenegro and NCC BiH shared their respective approaches to HPC promotion and user engagement, including: Examples of collaborative projects across academia, industry, and the public sector; Use cases and success stories in sectors such as healthcare, energy, agri-tech, fintech, and weather forecasting; Practical strategies for onboarding companies through direct communication and proactive engagement, including HPC4SME push The promotion and use of national sandbox infrastructures and advanced EuroHPC resources to support research institutions and innovative enterprises in developing and testing advanced computational solutions and business ideas.
  • Support for the CMBEBIH 2025 Conference (September 11–13, Sarajevo) NCC Montenegro confirmed its support for the upcoming CMBEBIH 2025 conference related to several activities, including: contribution to the Call for paper submissions, (HPC applications in medicine), Hackathon activities (HPC-supported use cases) and HPC panel discussion/expert session featuring both regional and international experts.
  • Joint training events and regional outreach – plans were discussed for organizing joint HPC training sessions for industry. These events may be held: in conjunction with the CMBEBIH 2025 conference in Sarajevo (September 2025); as part of the IEEE IT conference in Žabljak (February 2026), or in planned HPC roadshow to be held across five cities in BiH.

The visit concluded on a highly positive note, reaffirming the mutual commitment to deepen the regional cooperation, accelerate knowledge transfer, promote HPC as a strategic enabler for innovations in Southeast Europe and amplify NCCs visibility across EuroCC2 network.

Representatives from both NCC teams also participated in the POLICY ANSWERS Workshop on Technology-Oriented Research Infrastructures: Opportunities for the Western Balkans where NCC Bosnia and Herzegovina gave a presentation that featured EuroCC2 & EuroCC4SEE projects and NCC activities.

EuroCC4SEE Seminar Series – 5 Beats of Intelligence: AI Meets Diverse Domains

As part of the EuroCC4SEE project, five countries – Türkiye, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina – have joined forces to present an engaging online seminar series titled: “5 Beats of Intelligence: AI Meets Diverse Domains”.

Tjis is a joint effort from NCCs from the EuroCC4SEE

In this series, each country will host a dedicated session exploring how Artificial Intelligence (AI) intersects with a different scientific or industrial domain. The seminars are designed to share knowledge, inspire collaboration, and engage both academic and applied research communities in the EuroHPC ecosystem.

📅 The series runs from 20 May to 22 July 2025, with a new seminar approximately every two weeks. All seminars will be hosted online via Zoom. More details on schedule and registrations can be accessed at NCC Turkiye website at the foillowing link.

EuroCC4SEE Workshop in Belgrade

HPC Serbia is organizing a face-to-face regional EuroCC4SEE Workshop in Belgrade from 20 to 22 May 2025. The workshop will commence around noon on 20 May and conclude by noon on May 22. During the first half-day, we will hold sessions tailored for researchers. The second half-day will focus on SMEs, while the afternoon of the second day will feature presentations on the use of HPC in public administration. On the third day, we will showcase examples of HPC applications in the region. NCC Montenegro team members will participate in the event and give presentation on 22 May. Survey: A joint training for SMEs is in the making!

As part of the EuroCC4SEE project, the participating countries — Türkiye, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina — are collaboratively designing an SME-focused HPC training.
