Workshop on High Performance Computing at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering

On Monday, April 14, the workshop “Introduction to High Performance Computing” will be held at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Podgorica, in Room 348, starting at 12:30 p.m.

Workshop on HPC at Faculty of Electrical Engineering, UoM

The workshop “Introduction to High Performance Computing (HPC)” aims to provide a fundamental understanding of the concepts, architecture, and applications of HPC systems. Participants will become familiar with the basics of parallel computing, distributed environments, and the practical aspects of using supercomputers for scientific research, engineering, and processing large volumes of data. Special focus will be placed on available HPC resources in Montenegro and the opportunities to access European supercomputing infrastructures (such as EuroHPC systems). The workshop is intended for students, researchers, and professionals from various fields who wish to begin working in the area of high performance computing.

AI Heal Project: Successful Application for LUMI Supercomputer access

After the initial meeting held in December 2024 at the premises of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Montenegro, NCC Montenegro team had several online meetings with representatives of One AI start-up company, in order to provide them support in writing application for access to HPC resources. One AI company has obtained grant from Innovation Fund of Montenegro for their project “AI Heal “, where they are developing a smart-phone application for monitoring different health parameters and obtaining AI advices based on the experiences of doctors across the world. Thus, the project deals with great amount of data which are going to be used for the training of AI Heal model. This cooperation with NCC Montenegro resulted in successful application on Development Call for resources on LUMI supercomputer.

HPC Montenegro @ STP: Connecting with Innovative Companies and the Startup Ecosystem during Open Day

On April 3, 2025, representatives of HPC NCC Montenegro attended the Open Day hosted by the Science and Technology Park (STP) of Montenegro, seizing the opportunity to connect with innovative companies, startups, and entrepreneurs with the potential to leverage HPC for AI-driven projects.

Paid MNE

Among the STP residents who participated in the event and presented their ideas were ONEAI, Artificial Intelligence Software Solutions, Azoteq, G Consulting, the Institute of Contemporary Technologies of Montenegro, Logik Montenegro, Modrone, Montezuma, Uhura, Paid.mne, Ninamedia Clipping, Sjever.me, the Center for Finance, and Web Falcon.

One AI

It was inspiring to hear testimonials from Uhura, Paid.mne, and ONEAI, who already benefit from access to leading EuroHPC supercomputers, including LUMI and LEONARDO. These success stories are the result of fruitful collaboration with NCC Montenegro and the support received through Development Calls.

Uhura

In this vibrant setting, HPC NCC Montenegro representatives engaged with prospective companies and innovative teams to raise awareness of the Montenegrin NCC and European HPC resources, explore potential collaborations and training opportunities, and support access to advanced computing infrastructure for research, development, and innovation.

Consultations on a new application for HPC resources with PAID Montenegro

Members of the NCC Montenegro team, Prof. Dr. Enis Kočan, Prof. Dr. Nikola Žarić and Assist. Prof. Luka Filipović visited on Friday, March 28, the company PAID Montenegro, which represents an example of efficient use of HPC resources, as well as an example of good cooperation with NCC Montenegro. Namely, as part of the development of its stock exchange trading model, PAID-T, the company received access to HPC resources on the LUMI supercomputer in April 2024. Prior to this application, the NCC Montenegro team had several meetings with representatives of the PAID Montenegro company, where they were presented with the services of the national HPC competence center offered within the EuroCC2/EuroCC4SEE projects, and were also provided with support in completing the application for the Development call. Even before the expiration of the one-year deadline, through work on the development of the PAID-T model, the company has spent the allocated 15,000 node-hours on partition C of the LUMI supercomputer, and is already preparing a Report on the results and experiences so far.

Meeting with Paid MNE

Since the work on the development of the PAID-T model is not completed, the PAID Montenegro company plans to re-apply to one of the calls for access to supercomputer resources in Europe. Continuing the good cooperation, the NCC Montenegro team first presented the current and future calls organized within the EuroHPC JU ecosystem. Through an analysis of the expected future needs for HPC resources of the PAID-T company, taking into account the dynamics of publishing calls for access to HPC resources by the end of 2025, as well as the resources made available to users through these calls, it was proposed that the PAID-T company re-submit an application to the same type of call (Development call). It was suggested that they also apply for resources on the LUMI-G partition this time. It was agreed to continue contacts with the NCC Montenegro team and provide support in writing a new application for HPC resources.

Meeting between IEC Tehnopolis and NCC Montenegro

On March 25, 2025, representatives of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (IEC) Tehnopolis Nikšić welcomed a NCC Montenegro.

At IEC Tehnopolis, we were greeted by Željko Lučić and Đorđe Brkuljan, who provided an presentation on their center’s activities, support programs, and the startups they mentor. They highlighted the role of IEC Tehnopolis in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in Montenegro.

Luka Filipović, representing NCC Montenegro, shared an overview of our activities, training programs, and success stories, emphasizing how high-performance computing (HPC) is driving innovation and development. He also presented the opportunities available through NCC Montenegro, including access to EuroHPC resources, training, and expert support.

Presentation of NCC Montenegro activities

The discussion focused on identifying opportunities for collaboration, particularly how NCC Montenegro can support startups led by Tehnopolis in scaling their development efforts. By leveraging EuroHPC infrastructure and expertise, startups can accelerate their innovation processes and enhance their competitiveness.

Presentation of the EuroHPC calls for HPC resources to Čikom

The continuation of the consultations of the NCC team of Montenegro with the company Čikom and its sister company ITAS, was carried out on Friday, March 21, at the premises of the company Čikom. The meeting was attended by the CEO of the company Čikom, Vladan Tabaš, and the CEO of the company ITAS, Ivan Bošković, as well as representatives of the NCC team of Montenegro, Prof. Dr. Božo Krstajić and Prof. Dr. Enis Kočan. On February 1, the company ITAS began the implementation of the project “AI system for pathological analysis of adenocarcinoma (PathAI)”, which is co-financed by the Innovation Fund of Montenegro, and whose main goal is to improve the accuracy and efficiency of pathological analysis by applying innovative AI solutions. The ITAS team expects to collect and scan the first samples by the end of April, and the obtained images would then need to be processed on HPC resources. The NCC team recommended that ITAS apply to the call for HPC resources during the month of April, and presented the resources that can be obtained, the procedure for applying to the call and completing the application. It was agreed that the NCC team would be available to the ITAS company during the application period.
