A journal paper: Machine Learning Models for Statistical Analysis
Researchers from UDG and NCC Montenegro published a paper “Machine Learning Models for Statistical Analysis” by M. Grebovic et al. in The International Arab Journal of Information Technology, Vol. 20, No. 3A, Special Issue 2023. This was a follow up effort on the paper previously presented at the ACIT2023 conference.
ABSTRACT – Compared to traditional statistical models, Machine Learning (ML) algorithms provide the ability to interpret, understand and summarize patterns and regularities in observed data for making predictions in an advanced and more sophisticated way. The main reasons for the advantage of ML methods in making predictions are a small number of significant predictors of the statistical models, which means limited informative capability, and pseudo-correct regular statistical patterns, used without previous understanding of the used data causality. Also, some ML methods, like Artificial Neural Networks, use non-linear algorithms, considering links and associations between parameters. On the other hand, statistical models use one-step-ahead linear processes to improve only short-term prediction accuracy by minimizing a cost function. Although designing an optimal ML model can be a very complex process, it can be used as a potential solution for making improved prediction models compared to statistical ones. However, ML models will not automatically improve prediction accuracy, so it is necessary to evaluate and analyze several statistical and ML methods, including some artificial neural networks, through accuracy measures for prediction purposes in various fields of applications. A couple of techniques for improving suggested ML methods and artificial neural networks are proposed to get better accuracy results.

HPC4S3ME featured at the EDCON2023 conference
University of Donja Gorica presented HPC4S3ME project at our stand at EDCON2023 conference fair. Our researchers had an opportunity to talk to visitors and conference attendees. There was between 1500 and 2000 attendees today at VOCO complex in Podgorica Montenegro. More details on HPC4S3ME website at the following link.
EDCON (Community Ethereum Development Conference ) is a non-profit annual global Ethereum conference that happens once a year in different countries (EDCON 2017 in Paris, 2018 in Toronto, 2019 in Sydney, 2020-2021 Online, 2022 in San Francisco at Chase Center). It is mainly committed to serving the Ethereum ecosystem in boosting the communication and interaction of Ethereum communities worldwide. Link: https://www.edcon.io/
World Telecomunication and Information Society Day
On World Telecommunications and Information Society Day, prof. Dr. Tomo Popović was invited to participate in the morning TV program on national television RTCG hosted by Ms. Andrea Sekularac. The discussion was about the current state of ICT in Montenegro, digital divide in Montenegro and throughout the world. The very important issue of education and capacity building necessary to address the challenges of digitization was also discussed. During the discussion, important issues of digital transformation, IT megatrends, and especially challenges related to artificial intelligence were touched upon.
EUROCC at EEN WB++ Networking Event
University of Donja Gorica took part in the Enterprise Europe Network workshop called WB++ Networking Event. The topic of the event was “Digitalization in Agri-Food. The main participants were teams and SMEs active in the field of IT from the region as presenters, and the target audience was interest groups including public entities, companies, research groups, individuals, etc. UDG presented the EUROCC and EUROCC2 projects and discussed success stories and efforts to support digitalisation and the use of HPC/AI in agri-food sector.
The WB++ event is a joint initiative of partners from the countries of the Western Balkans (+Slovenia +Croatia) with the aim of connecting companies and strengthening partnerships and connections in the region. There was over 40 attendees at the networking event. The Enterprise Europe Network consists of almost 600 partner organizations and institutions, provides excellent contacts and links in 54 countries and connects over 3,000 experts in different fields at the local and international level. Through the FINNO platform, free consulting services are offered for sources of financing for innovation, business internationalization and business growth.
Zuzalu Workshop with world-leading innovators: Vitalik Buterin with UDG students
We had a pleasure to host one of the greateast minds of digital world, Vitalik Buterin (founder of Ethereum), and his fellow Zuzaluans, habitants of pop-up city in Montenegro.
World-leading innovators presented their ideas of Montenegro’s golden age, shared their ideas of Montenegro’s future reinforced by the most modern technologies and game-changing concepts. An amazing afternoon will have it’s second part in May! Stay tuned!
Speakers shared their path, where they once were and how they got to where they are now. They shared their dreams and their vision for the future, and what brought them to Montenegro. At the same time, this workshop was a platform for UDG students to showcase their creativity, ideas and perspective, which are critical to shaping the future of any industry. Speakers at the event were Vitalik Buterin, Milojko Mickey Spajic, Tomiwa Ademidun, Gary Sheng, Veronica S. and Zoja Šćekić. The event was moderated by Nela Milošević.
InnovateYourFuture: a successful 2-day ANSO workshop on IoT and AI
A very successful two-day workshop for students and industry tool place on 22-23 April 2023. The workshop was done in the context of tge training project called “Competency Training for IoT and AI – InnovateYourFuture” supported by ANSO – Alliance of International Science Organizations, China. The organization is done in collaboration with EuroCC Montenegro and Montenegrin AI Association. Edge AI devices obtained with the support from NVIDIA Academic Grants. During the event, UDG also presented relevant projects currently implemented at UDG such as H2020 DEMETER, DEP EUROCC2, IPA HPC4S3ME. The agenda for the event is available here.
During the first day, attendees had a chance to interactively participate in lectures coverin Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence and MAchine Learning, Data Science and Analytics. Lectures were given by Luka Filipovic, Marko Grebovic, Stevan Cakic, Ivan Jovovic, and Dejan Babic. During the second day, the focus was on practical training and hands on experience. Students worked with Stevan Cakic, Zoja Scekic, Ivan Jovovic, Dejan Babic, Igor Culafic, and Vesna Calasan. The hands on included work tools for dataset preparation, computer vision model training, edge AI devices and porting the prediction models to edge IoT. The students were split into groups and worked on solving practical problems in domains such as agri-food sector, health and medicine, and energy.
There was almost 40 people attending the event. We used the breaks for coffee and pizza to network, mingle and discuss interests and exchange experiences. It was also an excellent opportunity for young people interested in IoT and AI to network and get to know each other.
