Lecture by Professor Onur Mutlu, a world-renowned scientist

The Centre of Excellence – FoodHub and the Montenegrin National Center of Competence in the Field of High-Performance Computing – EuroCC have the opportunity to host this panel. The lecture will be held in Entrepreneurial Nest (Preduzetničko gnijezdo), on June 8, starting at 4 p.m.

Onur Mutlu is a professor of computer science in information technology and electrical engineering in Zurich, Switzerland, and at Carnegie Mellon University. He received his PhD and MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and his BS in Computer Engineering and Psychology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

His research is related to computer architecture, systems, security and bioinformatics. The work spans and spans the boundaries between applications, systems, languages, system software, compilers, and hardware and addresses many issues of high performance, energy efficiency, hardware security, fault tolerance, predictable systems, reliable systems, and hardware-software cooperation.

A journal paper: Machine Learning Models for Statistical Analysis

Researchers from UDG and NCC Montenegro published a paper “Machine Learning Models for Statistical Analysis” by M. Grebovic et al. in The International Arab Journal of Information Technology, Vol. 20, No. 3A, Special Issue 2023. This was a follow up effort on the paper previously presented at the ACIT2023 conference.

ABSTRACT – Compared to traditional statistical models, Machine Learning (ML) algorithms provide the ability to interpret, understand and summarize patterns and regularities in observed data for making predictions in an advanced and more sophisticated way. The main reasons for the advantage of ML methods in making predictions are a small number of significant predictors of the statistical models, which means limited informative capability, and pseudo-correct regular statistical patterns, used without previous understanding of the used data causality. Also, some ML methods, like Artificial Neural Networks, use non-linear algorithms, considering links and associations between parameters. On the other hand, statistical models use one-step-ahead linear processes to improve only short-term prediction accuracy by minimizing a cost function. Although designing an optimal ML model can be a very complex process, it can be used as a potential solution for making improved prediction models compared to statistical ones. However, ML models will not automatically improve prediction accuracy, so it is necessary to evaluate and analyze several statistical and ML methods, including some artificial neural networks, through accuracy measures for prediction purposes in various fields of applications. A couple of techniques for improving suggested ML methods and artificial neural networks are proposed to get better accuracy results.

EUROCC2 project successfully presented at EDCON Conference 2023

Montenegro welcomed one of the biggest gatherings in the cryptocurrency world and blockchain technologies – EDCON (Community Ethereum Development Conference) bringing founders, developers, researchers, industry leaders, investors and innovators together to discuss the recent developments, emerging trends and overall potential of Etherium-based solutions, blockchain ecosystem, decentralised technologies and digital economy.

During a five-day event, co-organised by UDG, (https://www.edcon.io) visitors from all over the world had an opportunity to listen inspirational speakers, including Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, to attend panel discussion, interactive workshops and exhibition stands, as well as to experience multiple networking and collaboration opportunities.

NCC team members effectively showcased the EUROCC2 project at the UDG exhibition booth, and also highlighted its significance in the opening speech at the EDCON conference. Multiple high-tech enthusiasts, entrepreneurs and innovative companies’ representatives had an opportunity to understand better how NCC Montenegro, powered by of EUROCC2, brings innovative supercomputing technologies and applications to Montenegro. Visitors were captivated by HPC+ benefits and opportunities, briefly introduced to EuroCC2 project and express further interest in MNE success stories and industry onboarding process.
