EuroCC@Montenegro Conference, day 2 is underway! #EuroCCME22 conference is organized by EuroCC and CASTIEL project. Very interesting discussion on the importance of NCCs for bridging the gap between academia and industry and connection domain experts speaking “application domain language” with HPC experts speaking “HPC language”. You can follow the conference remotely via the livestream: https://eurocc.udg.edu.me/euroccmontenegrolive/
#EuroCCME22 featured on local TV
During the first day of the public part of the EuroCC@Montenegro conference, we gave a short introduction about EuroCC and Castiel projects for broadcasting at the local TV station. Prof. Milica Vukotic, Vice-rector at the UDG, and prof. Tomo Popovic explained the project details and discussed the importance of HPC and AI in Montenegro and in general.

EuroCC@Montenegro Conference Opened Today
EuroCC@Montenegro Conference started today. This conference is organized by the EuroCC and Castiel projects. This is currently one of the largest research projects in Europe, with a budget of around 60 million euros, and brings together, under the leadership of the University of Stuttgart, partners from 33 European countries. Through UDG, Montenegro is, along with North Macedonia, the only country from the region that participates in this prestigious project.
The project deals with high performance computing (super computing) and after two years of project duration, due to the pandemic, this is the first conference that is held live. We are happy that UDG, with its project results, deserved to host a conference in Montenegro that brought together over 200 researchers from prestigious European universities and institutes, from 33 countries.

The project deals with high performance computing. Due to the pandemic, this is the first in-person conference two years after the start of the project. We are happy that UDG’s contribution to the project was recognized, and that our recommended results lead to us hosting a conference in Montenegro. The conference brings together over 200 researchers from prestigious European universities and institutes, from 33 countries.
Summer school on HPC Computer Architectures for AI and Dedicated Applications
Last week, the Summer school on HPC Computer Architectures for AI and Dedicated Applications was held in Barcelona at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) and at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). Over the course of 5 days, excellent lecturers gave the participants the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the architecture of supercomputers, to deal in detail with RISC-V, to run scripts for training AI models on the MareNostrum supercomputer, but also with the application of these high-performance systems in application development artificial intelligence. One of the participants of this school was our PhD student from the Faculty of Information Systems and Technologies, mr Stevan Cakic. Mr. Cakic provided us with few photos from the event.
HPC Conference by EuroCC/CASTIEL
The upcoming international conference in the field of high-performance computing (HPC) – EUROCC/CASTIEL within the framework of the EuroCC project – National Competence Centers in the Framework of EuroHPC and CASTIEL will take place from 6-9 September this year in hotel Mediteran in Becici, Budva.
The conference will gather over 200 experts from 33 member countries of EuroHPC JU – Joint Undertaking for European High Performance Computing within the Horizon2020 program. The conference will be open for public on September 8th and 9th and will cover topics from the field of HPC technologies and related disciplines such as high performance data analysis (HPDA), artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, parallel programming, computer simulations and the like.
The conference will be open for public on September 8th at 13:00h with a livestream provided on the official website of the project EuroCC: https://www.eurocc-access.eu . The opening speech will be given by dr. Ing Bastian Koller, the Deputy Director of the High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart, who will have a public presentation of EuroCC & CASTIEL. During the conference emphasis will be placed on advanced e-infrastructure, the key component of which is precisely HPC, which contributes to the development of modern science and is key to many advanced researches. Participants will have a chance to learn more about the importance of National Competence Centers across Europe, but also to participate in panels: HPC+ in academia, public administration, best practices, the future of the NCCs. In addition to the above, within panels HPC4SME2 and SMEs and HPC+ (Selected FF4EuroHPC Success Stories) the conference will present project success stories and user cases aimed at the highest quality experiments of innovative small and medium-sized enterprises across Europe, including the use of artificial intelligence, cloud technologies, HPC and others. The conference Agenda is available here.
We invite experts and the general public, if they are interested in participating in the part of the conference open to the public, to register at eurocc.conference@udg.edu.me.
