EuroCC Project at UDG

EuroCC Montenegro is implemented at the University of Donja Gorica University of Donja Gorica in the context of the EuroCC project realized under the Horizon 2020 (H2020) through EuroHPC Joint Undertaking [JU]. Within the EuroCC project, UDG and other partners from participating countries established a single National Competence Centre (NCC) in the area of high-performance computing (HPC). The NCC will coordinate activities in all HPC-related fields at the national level and serve as a contact point from customers from industry, science, HPC experts, and the general public alike. The main goal of EuroCC project was to establish and run a network of 33 NCCs across the EuroHPC Participating States. The NCCs act as single points of HPC access in each country between national and EuroHPC systems. They operate on national level to map HPC competences, develop HPC expertise and services, and facilitate access to European supercomputers for the users from the private and public sector (SMEs, big industry, academia and public administration).

EuroCC2 continues to develop competences, deliver trainings, interact with industry and support the adoption of HPC services in other related fields, such as high performance data analytics (HPDA), artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum computing (QC) to expand the HPC user base. The main goal of the EuroCC2 is promoting HPC to boost digital skills, jobs and industrial competitiveness in Europe.

University of Montenegro joined NCC Montenegro as affiliated partner during EuroCC2 project.

The EuroHPC JU is a legal and funding entity, created in 2018/reviewed in 2021 by means of Council Regulation (EU) 2021/1173, with the mission to develop, deploy and extend a world-leading federated, secure and hyper-connected supercomputing, quantum computing, service and data infrastructure ecosystem to many public and private users in Europe. The EuroHPC JU has already procured and make it operational following supercomputers:. LUMI in Finland, LEONARDO in Italy, VEGA in Slovenia, MELUXINA in Luxembourg, DISCOVERER in Bulgaria and KAROLINA in the Czech Republic. Two more supercomputers are also underway:  MARENOSTRUM 5 in Spain and DEUCALION in Portugal.

EuroHPC JU continues funding EuroCC2 project. Starting on 1st January 2023, the project EuroCC2 will run for a 3-year period with a total budget of up to €62 million, provided by the Digital Europe Programme and the EuroHPC Participating States. EuroCC 2 follow on from EuroCC, funded by Horizon 2020 which started on 1st Sep 2020 and ran for two years.
